Mobility Scooter- and Wheelchair-Friendly Attractions in Salt Lake City

Let’s pick up where we left off last time and explore another gem in Utah that’s goes the extra mile to accommodate people with mobility issues.

… continued from last time

At Western Stairlifts, we meet people everyday who have mobility issues that often prevent them from enjoying days out and vacations with their families and friends. It’s so easy to kit your home out with a stair lift, home elevator, ramps and other mobility devices, but when you venture outdoors, you are at the mercy of hotel, zoo, museum and park owners, to name just a few.

The good news is that business owners are realizing that they need to cater to people with acute and chronic disabilities. Since we started looking into wheelchair-friendly day trips in Utah, we’ve come across so many places that have really put a lot of thought into disabled access, which is great!

In my last post, I took a good look around the Natural History Museum of Utah and I loved the fact that the museum has well-thought out facilities, so that people who are less mobile can fully enjoy their visit. This time, I thought we’d liven things up and look at Utah’s Hogle Zoo.

Utah’s Hogle Zoo

Utah’s Hogle Zoo covers 42 acres and houses over 800 animals. If you are in Utah, it’s definitely worth a visit!

The Zoo management embraces the wide demographic of its visitors and we think that they’ve thought of pretty much everything! When it comes to ensuring that everyone who visits the zoo has a great experience, Hogle Zoo really does go the extra mile:

Wheelchairs and Electric Convenience Vehicles (ECV)

If you need a wheelchair or an ECV to get around Hogle Zoo, you can hire one. Alternatively, you can take your own mobility scooter or wheelchair. If someone in your party uses an adapted stroller, you can contact the zoo for an ‘Easy Access Pass’ that gives you the same permissions as wheelchair users while on zoo grounds.

Wheelchair Accessible Attractions

The Zoo has ensured that wheelchair users will be able to enjoy special shows held in the amphitheaters. There are wheelchair accessible spots for all shows that will ensure that you have a good view and a lot of fun too!

Ramps

If you need a little extra help accessing any of the exhibits, simply ask for a ramp. Most exhibits are wheelchair accessible, but some may require ramp access.

Accessibility Map

Hogle Zoo provides an accessibility map, which is a great guide for anyone in a wheelchair or people who walk with a cane. Some parts of the zoo may be more challenging for people with mobility issues and the map will help you to plan where to go and whether you’ll need any extra assistance.

Next time, we’ll continue our trip around Utah and we hope that you’ll find some inspiration for your next day trip in this stunning state.
