Vertical Platform Lift Installation

Vertical platform lift installation for raised entries.

A vertical platform lift raises a wheelchair, scooter, or power chair between ground level and a raised porch, deck, or entry. It is considered when steps create a height change and a seated stairlift or ramp does not match the access point. We measure the vertical rise and landing layout, review the mobility device and surface, then explain the next step during a free in-home evaluation.

What It Is

Vertical platform lift access for raised entries

A vertical platform lift (VPL) is a powered platform that raises and lowers straight up and down. It bypasses steps entirely, making it the right solution for wheelchair users, scooter riders, and anyone who cannot safely navigate a staircase at all.

Western Stairlifts installs the Atlas Mini VISTA, Atlas Nano, Atlas Vista, and Harmar Highlander II covering everything from compact single-step porch entries to elevated deck transitions requiring several feet of vertical travel.

Rated for indoor (garage) or outdoor use, our VPLs feature stable platforms, fold-down ramps, locking safety gates, and simple push-button controls accessible from both the ground level and the upper level.

The fit starts with the entry, not just the lift. We review the vertical rise, the ground and upper landing, the approach path, available footprint, surface, and mobility device so the installation plan matches how you use the entrance. Read our vertical platform lift guide and our outdoor access comparison.

  • Full wheelchair and power scooter compatibility
  • Rated for indoor (garage) or outdoor use
  • Fold-down ramp and locking safety gate on every model
  • Battery backup keeps the lift running during outages

Is It Right For You?

Check the entry, rise, and landing before choosing a VPL

If a wheelchair or scooter needs to move over a raised entry, the vertical rise, landing layout, approach path, and available footprint all affect the right access solution. If you need access across multiple full floors of your home, a residential elevator may be a better fit.

✓

Wheelchair and Scooter Users

A VPL is purpose-built for mobility devices. The platform is sized to fit wheelchairs, power scooters, and powerchairs without transferring out of the device.

✓

Indoor Floor-Level Transitions

Short indoor rises between split-level floors or sunken living areas can be resolved with a compact indoor VPL where a ramp is not practical.

✕

Access Across Multiple Full Floors

For travel between multiple floors of a home, a residential elevator provides more capacity and range. We will confirm the right fit during your evaluation.

The Process

From Evaluation to Your First Lift

01

Free In-Home Evaluation

A trained technician visits your home and assesses the entry, deck, or floor transition that needs lift access. We measure the rise height, available footprint, and surface conditions to recommend the right VPL model.

02

Model Selection and Scheduling

We confirm the right Atlas or Harmar model for your rise height, mobility device, weight requirements, and environment. Once the configuration is clear, we explain scheduling and the installation plan.

03

Professional Installation

Our installation team completes the work according to the site plan, checks the lift's operation, and prepares it for the final walkthrough.

04

Full Walkthrough

Before we leave, your technician walks through every function: upper and lower controls, fold-down ramp, safety gate, obstruction sensors, and battery backup. We stay until you feel completely confident using it.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a vertical platform lift cost?
VPL pricing depends on the model and rise height. Because each installation is assessed on-site, pricing is confirmed after our free in-home evaluation. We give you a firm quote with no pressure and no obligation.
What determines the VPL installation plan?
The plan depends on the vertical rise, ground and upper landing, available footprint, surface conditions, mobility device, and selected model. We review those details during the evaluation and explain the next steps.
Can a VPL be used outdoors in rain or snow?
Yes. The Atlas and Harmar platform lifts we install are rated for indoor (garage) or outdoor use. During the evaluation, we review the entry's exposure, surface, and layout to confirm which model fits the environment.
What is the weight capacity?
The Atlas Nano, Atlas Mini VISTA, Atlas Vista and Harmar Highlander II all carry 750 lbs, and the Atlas Vista has an optional upgrade to 1,000 lbs. We confirm the selected model and required capacity during the evaluation.
What warranty comes with a platform lift?
Every platform lift we install comes with a 3 year warranty.
Do you install platform lifts that follow a staircase?
Yes. For a wheelchair user who needs to travel up a straight staircase, we install the Atlas AC-105 inclined platform lift, which rides along the stairs instead of lifting straight up. See the inclined platform lift
Can a VPL work with a wheelchair or scooter?
VPLs are designed to carry wheelchairs and scooters over a raised entry. We review the device, platform approach, landing space, and controls during the evaluation so the recommended model matches the way you use the entrance.
