What It Is

Stairs without leaving the wheelchair

An inclined platform lift is a platform that travels along a rail mounted to a straight staircase. A wheelchair or scooter user rolls on, rides to the other level, and rolls off, with no transfer to a stairlift seat.

Western Stairlifts installs the Atlas AC-105. Its platform folds up against the wall when it is not in use, so the staircase stays clear for everyone else in the home.

The right lift starts with the staircase. At the free in-home evaluation we measure the stairs, the stair width, and the space at the top and bottom, and we confirm whether an inclined platform lift, a vertical platform lift, or a stairlift is the better fit.

Inclined platform lift

Follows a straight staircase and carries the wheelchair or scooter itself. Best when a wheelchair user needs to travel a full flight of stairs.

Vertical platform lift

Lifts a wheelchair straight up for a single level change, such as a porch or deck.

Stairlift

Carries one person seated in a chair along the stairs. The rider transfers out of the wheelchair.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an inclined platform lift?
An inclined platform lift is a platform that travels up and down a straight staircase on a rail. A wheelchair or scooter user rolls onto the platform and rides to the other level without transferring out of the chair. When it is not in use, the AC-105 platform folds up against the wall to free the stairs.
How is it different from a stairlift or a vertical platform lift?
A stairlift carries one person seated in a chair on the rail. A vertical platform lift raises a wheelchair straight up for a short rise, such as a porch. An inclined platform lift follows the stairs and carries the wheelchair itself, so it suits a wheelchair user with a full staircase between floors.
Which inclined platform lift do you install?
We install the Atlas AC-105 inclined platform lift.
How much weight can it carry?
Atlas rates the AC-105 for up to 550 lbs (249 kg). That limit covers the person and the wheelchair or scooter together, so we confirm the combined weight at your free evaluation.
What kind of staircase does it need?
The AC-105 is made for a straight staircase, meaning one flight with no turns or landings in the middle. We measure the stairs, the stair width, and the space at the top and bottom to confirm it fits.
What warranty comes with it?
Every platform lift we install comes with a 3 year warranty.
How much does an inclined platform lift cost?
Cost depends on the length of the staircase and your site. We give you a firm quote after the free in-home evaluation, with no pressure and no obligation.
Does insurance or Medicare cover it?
Standard Medicare Part B does not cover platform lifts. Some VA programs and state Medicaid waivers may offer assistance. Our team can point you toward available resources during your evaluation.
