The Different Types of Stair Lifts

In our last article, we looked at if a stair lift is for you. As it so happens, we’ve delivered and installed many stair lifts in our customers’ homes, and each and every one of them is happy. In this article, we’re going to look at the different types of stair lifts that are available.

Seated stair lifts for curved staircases

If your staircase goes round a corner, you’re going to need a curved stair lift, and that’s no problem as we have curved stair lifts in stock here at Western Stairlifts. But the question you’re probably asking is “what’s the difference between a straight and curved stair lift?”. Curved stair lifts are a little more complicated than the standard straight ones as they need bespoke curved rails to fit the exact shape of your staircase. For this reason, they can be more expensive. To find out the price of a curved stair lift, please get in touch with us here at Western Stairlifts.

Different types of stair lifts

As well as curved stair lifts, we stock standing stair lifts too. Standing stair lifts are often installed if you’ve got a particularly narrow staircase that won’t fit a standard seated lift. However, the headroom of the staircase has to be high enough to fit your whole standing body.

Standing stair lifts are rare, and are also more suitable than seated lifts if you have problems bending your knees. Some standing stair lifts have a small ledge to help you keep your balance. Standing lifts aren’t for everyone. For instance, if you sometimes get dizzy, or if you don’t have enough physical strength to stand for a few minutes, then it could be dangerous to use a standing stair lift, even if you have a sturdy hand rail.

So then, we’ve looked at curved, standing and straight stair lifts. In our next article, we’re going to be covering how you can safely get up to the second level (or third and fourth levels) of your home super easily, without having to use a stair lift!
